F.A.Q.'s

When and where is Pygmalion Music Festival?

It takes place September 16-19, 2009 in Urbana, IL.

Yeah, but where are the shows at?

The shows are at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, The Canopy Club, Krannert Art Museum, Channing-Murray Foundation, Red Herring, Blues BBQ, Sandella's, Courtyard Cafe, Parasol Records, Manolo's Cove, The Highdive, Cowboy Monkey, Mike N' Molly's, Bentley's and Exile on Main Street. Use Google and you will see.

How much are tickets to the festival?

$65 right now, but they will go up without notice.

What if I just want to come to see Owen or Maps & Atlases, for example?

Hey, that's cool too. You can buy individual tickets to those shows, either in advance when applicable, or at the door. If you are buying at the door, show up early. Pygmalion tickets tend to move quickly. Of course, though, when you compare the costs of the single show to the festival pass, there is no comparison in terms of value.

Where the hell is Urbana-Champaign, IL?

It's about 2 hours south of Chicago, 2 hours north of St. Louis and 2 hours west of Indianapolis. It's accessed by three different interstates and a municipal airport with a little fountain in a manmade pond out front. But, you can also use Google. It's fun.

Does Champaign-Urbana even have a scene?

Yes, we do actually! Countless bands that you have heard of are from here. Even REO Speedwagon. That isn't a lie. And we're home to two awesome indie labels: Parasol Records and Polyvinyl Records. Surprising, eh?

What is there to do in Champaign-Urbana aside from the festival?

Well, that depends on who you are. We suggest checking out smilepolitely.com and to just simply Google your interests along with words "champaign" and "urbana" "il" next to it. Remember: Google is fun.

What about food?

Fortunately, we are not without good places to eat in the neighborhood. There is everything from fine dining to Thai food to Subway to the best thin crust pizza in town, Manolo's Pizza. They also serve authentic Argentinean empanadas. They are good, because they are fattening.

I am coming in from out of town for the festival. Where should I stay?

We highly suggest the Hampton Inn on University Avenue, or the Illini Union Hotel. Both are within walking distance to the festival venues.

Do you accept submissions?

Submissions are closed for 2009.

I am in a local band, and we want to perform at Pygmalion. Can we?

Maybe. We'd love to offer every band in town a show, but the bottom line is that there are just not enough slots. One of the goals for 2009 was to pare down the amount of locals performing in order to bring in more acts from out of town.

Who designed your awesome website?

Poccuo. They are based in DC and they will do for you what they did for me.

Was that a shameless plug?

Absolutely.

What is this Krannert name that I keep reading about? And why do they have two venues?

They were donors to the University of Illinois, and they are a good part of the reason that this festival is taking place with such fine artists. Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is the really large monolith-like building on Goodwin Ave, and Krannert Art Museum is the really fancy building on 6th St. and Peabody Ave. across the Quad.

What is the Quad?

Obviously, you have not been to college. Good choice.

Why would you say that?

Because we are still paying off loans for degrees we don't use. We are bitter.

Anything else we should know?

Sure. But not anything we can think of off the top of our heads. Last year we asked you to vote for Barack Obama. This year, well, lend a hand where you can.

OK. But what about anything related to the festival?

Email seth@nicodemusagency.com if you have any questions at all. For real. He checks his email way too often.

Are the Cubs going to win the Series this year?

Abso-fucking-lutely. It's gonna happen...
